Rainbow zigzags

Rainbow zigzags (i.e., Eleanor's quilt) is finished!  It was my February ALYoF goal, and not only did I get it done, I even gave it to Eleanor.

 

I started with a pack of Kona Classic hexagons.  I cut the hexies in half, and then each half into a parallelogram and an equilateral triangle.  I used the parallelograms in the quilt and have a bunch of triangles just waiting to become something really cute.

 

For the larger parallelograms I used fabrics that I already had...except for purple.  I had to go buy two more purples because I didn't have anything dark enough. 

 

The colors are all the same size within a column, but the background (Kona Putty) varies.  It was a nice semi-improve way to do it.

 

The quilting is a wood grain.  Nice and easy and it felt just right for this quilt...especially since the quilt itself is rather busy.

 

The backing is a minky.  The background is white which doesn't really go with the Putty on the front, but it was just so much fun.  And of course nice and soft.

 

Once again we had a recent snow and so I took advantage of the pristine backdrop.  It's really quite fun to take pictures in the snow.

Kona

One of the reasons I love Kona is because of the names of the colors.  And the names are on the bolts.  So instead of putting colors that looked good together for the Kona challenge, I thought I'd put some themes together based on the names instead...

First off, we have Fruit Salad, made from watermelon, blueberry, orange, peach, and berry.  There were several fruits that I didn't put in too.

Secondly, we have A Walk in the Forest, made from fern, shadow, spruce, forest, thistle, moss, earth, evergreen, and leaf.  I think this one might be my favorite of the three.

Lastly, we have Agate Hunting on the Shores of Lake Superior, made from stone, lake, forest, sky, and sand.  I take back what I said above.  I think this is my favorite.

Wood bees

I started wood grain quilting on Elanor's quilt.  As expected, it is going pretty quickly.

I also finished my bee block and signature block.  They even got put in an envelope and just need to be posted.

Feb ALYOF

I don't feel like I got a ton done in January, but I also started playing a computer game more again.  Life is rough when you have too many hobbies. :p

1. Baby Elanor's quilt. My February ALYOF goal is to completely finish the top.  I have two more rows put on since the picture was taken and it still isn't quite wide enough so I'm making two more rows.  I'm hoping it doesn't look too crazy and that I can finish it by the end of February.  I'm going with an easy quilting pattern, so that should help.

2. Braid in braid.  This was supposed to be a quick and easy quilting job, but I'm currently on my third thread and have unpicked the right two braids about four times.  Urg.  But I think it's finally a go, and now it should be quick and easy.  Except that I might run out of thread...

3. Baby girl quilt.  I've mapped out the pieces needed for the next baby quilt.  Colors are not correct.  It'll be more girly.

And a whole bunch of quilts that I didn't touch this month.  (Dates are when they were started)...
4. Baby quilt, unknown gender.  Not sure what I'm doing with this yet.
5. Baby quilt, gender TBD.  No progress. I'd like to finish by July.
6. Baby quilt, gender TBD.  No progress. I'd like to finish by August.
7. Aunt's throw. No progress. I'd really like to finish by Easter.
