Shower curtain finished

A while ago Rachel from Stitched in Color made a shower curtain.  I thought it was a cool idea, but had no good reason to make one.  But then we moved into a new house with a missing shower curtain.  (But the tub does have a lot of baby toys that I wanted to hide!)

I really like how it turned out, although it wasn't quite what I was expecting.  I had a small fiasco getting enough of the light brown fabric and not dying it while prewashing, so I ended up with two stripes on the bottom instead of one or zero.  (I was going back and forth on how many I wanted.)  The colors are also a little bit darker than what I was hoping for.  They still go very well with the room, but not quite as well with the towels.

The top is a disappearing nine patch.  It was my first time making button holes and they were easier than I expected.  On another note, I was disappointed in the selection of shower curtain hangers at the store.  I wanted some that clasped together so they wouldn't fall off, and it was the ones that I ended up with or the "ugly" clear ones.  All the fun designs were in the non-clasping style.

This is from inside.  I think it looks pretty cool.

WIP Wednesday

It's WIP Wednesday again!  I feel like I put in a normal amount of effort this week and got less than I was expecting back.

Let's start with paper piercing.  It was my first time doing it, and for the first coaster I'm pretty sure I took out every seam three times.  (Although, this makes it really, really easy to get the paper off.)  The second one went together a little better; I sort of figured out what I was doing.  And the with the third one...the quarter with the pin has incorrect measurements and won't line up.  So I tossed them all in a bag to put on hold for a few days.  (I'm still planning on three more with the rest of the color combinations.)

Next I worked on putting a back on the pieced part of the shower curtain.  I cut it too small the first time and had to recut.  Luckily I had a huge piece of scrap...I got it for the very first thing I sewed, a tablecloth, and WAY overestimated how much I needed.  I've also learned about french seams since I started piecing it, so I'll finish the curtain up with those.

And lastly, I got more fabric. It's for my heart quilt, and I'm really excited to start.  But I need to finish the two things above and some mending first.  (Hopefully.  Unless I can convince myself otherwise.)

Shower curtian orientation

Does one of these look better than the other?  I turned it upside-down in one of the pictures.  I thought it would make a large difference, but I'm not sure it does in the end.

Edit: maybe this was a silly post since they look so much the same.  Oh well, it is still nice to see it up.

Progress

I finally have more progress to show on other things. :)

I finished the back of Quilt 11.

I started piecing the shower curtain.  The colors seemed a little off by my sewing machine, so I moved them to the bathroom were they will end up and they looked a lot better.

WIP: it keeps changing

This (Quilt 11) is supposed to be my main WIP.  However, I don't have enough fabric for the back.  Maybe I'll try and get some tomorrow.

While waiting to get the backing for the quilt above, I started working on a shower curtain (project 12). It'll have a disappearing nine-patch.  I didn't realize that there was an easier way to make a disappearing nine patch until I had started to cut pieces, but after these are put together I'll start using the easier way.

Then I decided to join Canoe Ridge Creations' HST festival.  I'm not sure I can turn out a quilt in the allotted amount of time, but I can probably at least get it pieced.  And maybe I'll surprise myself.

Quilt 11 and Project 12

I've slowly been working away at some sewing at night.  A new baby and a new house don't leave a lot of time for quilting, but I can't complain.

I've started quilt 11 (idea from here)

and I bought fabric for a shower curtain in our new house (project 12).  I expect this will be the most expensive shower curtain I'll ever see, but I bought the fabric with a gift card so I can just enjoy making it!  I'm not 100% sure that I'll use all the colors below...we'll see how the mood hits me.  I also didn't make any measurements for how much of everything I needed, so that could make it interesting too.
