Rotating squares

Since the baby for this blanket will be here any time I thought I should finally get the pictures up.  I can't believe it's taken me so long to take the pictures...but then usually I finish after the baby has arrived so I am itching to get the quilt out the door.

This quilt started out as a QDAD  design.  I was aiming for something completely different, but still loved how this one came out.  The original had similar colors.

I love the colors in this quilt, even though they're much softer than what I usually use.  Kona asparagus, camellia, and iron make up the darker values and Kona mint and Medium pink make up the lighter values.  The white parts have some light hexagons on them...it is really quite lovely.

 

 For the quilting, I did (six) petaled flowers and some hexagons with a cross-hatch.  I used a new thread, Superior's So Fine.  It was very nice to work with...I might get more in the future.

Per normal baby quilts for me, it is backed in minky (soft pink) and bound in sateen (light grey).

 

I really wanted to take picture of this quilt with a background of clouds.   I thought awhile about how to do such a think and decided the easiest thing was the back of a different blanket.  Lots of cotton balls would have been fun though.

I took the quilt to a new park and was surprisingly uninspired.  I got another one at a friends house and the rest on my deck per normal.

I'm really, really happy with how this quilt turned out.  It isn't my favorite, but it is definitely up there.

Three quilts!

It is currently baby season again.  Have you noticed they seem to come in groups?  Anyway, I currently have three baby quilts done.  Three!  Two are for babies that aren't even here yet.  I'm rather amazed that I'm so on top of it.  I still need to get pictures of two of them, but in the meantime they're sitting in the house, making me feel happy.

But, in all fairness, there is one more baby in August and I don't think that he will get his blanket on time.  I have started working on it though, so hopefully it won't be too late either.

Month rollover

1. Sunset wall hanging.  For my June ALYOF, I would like to get the piecing finished and get ready for hand quilting.  This will be the first time doing any real hand quilting, so I need to read a bit about technique and get the proper needles and thread.  Last summer it was nice to have some handwork to do outside while my son played, so that's what this will be for this summer.  Luckily, I also found my instructions.

Other things I did this past month...
2. scrap quilt. I finished all the strips.  I have way longer strips than anticipated...but that is for another post.

3. Baby quilt, girl.  The top is pieced and quilting has started.

4. Baby blessing quilt.  I cut out some squares for people at a baby shower to write blessings on.  I've thought about layout but haven't made a final choice yet; it will probably depend on how many squares with writing come back.
5. Simply solids bee quilt.  I have the bee blocks put together and the strips for in between the bee blocks attached to one side.  I'm not sure exactly how I want to go from here.  I think I also need more blue fabric.  I know where I bought it and that it is a moda solid, so I'm hoping it is still there.

6. map wall hanging.  I bought the fabric.  I really don't need to do much with this as I don't think I'm going to quilt it. It just needs to be hemmed and hung.
7. Stack and whack.  I bought fabric and a triangle ruler.  Because I obviously needed another project. :)  I expect this won't get worked on for a while. :(

Long seams

I've decided.  Sewing the long seams when putting rows together is my least favorite part of quilting.

Binding might come next, but by that time I'm so close to the end it isn't so bad.
