Ombre quilt

This quilt was finished...and gifted...last October but I haven't posted about it yet.  I've given myself some grace about it and will slowly get caught up with everything.

Anyway, the Ombre quilt.  I love this one.

It started with an ombre piece of fabric that I picked up at an AQS quilt show several years ago.  I try to not get fabric unless I have a purpose for it, but this was one piece where that didn't work.  I finally realized that if I cut a square of fabric into quarter triangles, I could use the top and bottom for one hourglass square and the sides for the other hourglass square and keep the color graduation intact.

Needless to say, I was rather sick of sewing hourglasses by the time this was done, but it was worth it.

I wanted a rather fast quilting motif, along with one that wouldn't distract from the piecing.  So I did wiggly lines down the center of each row.

As normal, the back is a minky and it is bound in sateen.

Linking up with Finish it up Friday...even if all I did was finish the blog post. :)

August progress; September goals

1. Owl quilt.  This quilt was made by my mother-in-law, and I need to quilt and bind it.  It shouldn't take too long, but there are several other things that I'm doing this month too.  It's my September goal, but I'm not convinced that I'll finish.

2. Pluses.  This is finished!  It just needs pictures and to be delivered.

3. Black scrap quilt.  I finished burying all the threads in, thanks to Grey's Anatomy.  I feel like I need to block it though, and I'm feeling rather intimidated by it.  It might be a bit before I actually do it.

4. Falling leaves. This needs pictures.

5. Ombre hourglass quilt. I just finished making all the blocks.  Hooray!!!!  They took a long time and I'm glad to be done with them.

6. Robot quilt.  My son just got a twin bed and needs a large quilt now.  I had an plan, and then I saw these robots/astronauts and knew he would love it more than my plan.  So I changed my plan.

7.  Scrap bee blocks.  I made some example blocks for the bee that I'm in and will hopefully get a bunch more this coming month.

Other items that didn't get worked on this month, but are still loved...

8. Meshing solid HSTs
9. Rainbow Log Cabin
10. Scrap quilt #2

12. Jeweled floors
13. Lost piece
14. Winter quilt

Summer standings

It's been a while since I've posted, but the summer has been busy.  I've still been making progress, even though it hasn't been well documented...hopefully I'll get some of them documented soon.  In the meantime, here's where I currently stand on everything.

1. Pluses.  Quilting is almost done.  This is my August goal, but it should finish up relatively easily.

2. temperature quilt.  Here is is through mid-July.  It's interesting to see the color changes.  (One line is a half of a month.)

3. Scrap quilt. There are still a gazillion threads to bury.  I need to find a good show to watch.

4. green/white hourglass baby quilt.  I almost have almost two segments done.  (One shown below.)  I was hoping to only do two segments, but it won't be wide enough, so I have a whole bunch more awaiting me.

5. Falling leaves: This needs pictures.
6. Sunset wall hanging: This needs pictures.

Other items still waiting aroundThe number has stayed the same.  I should really do some of the "finished" posts so the number can go down.  If I recall correctly, my goal was to be down to eleven at the end of the year.  That might be hard.

7. Meshing solid HSTs.
8. Rainbow log cabin.
9. Simply solids bee quilt.
10. scrap quilt #2.
11. Orphan rocket block.
12. Jeweled floors.
13. Lost piece (almost whole cloth quilt).
14. Winter quilt.
15. fabric from Christmas.
16. A pillow with green/purple fabric.
17. Trying to fit in - left over triangle quilt.
18. robot quilt

Ombre quilt

I've made 48 of these units and am getting very bored of them.  I should have thought about the repetition better before deciding on the size.  There are at least 32 more, although I'll probably decide I need 72 more.
