Countdown and winnings

The other day I received some fabric from Lea at Podunk Pretties that I won in her giveaway.  I love it...I love blue and I love daisies.  I have a baby quilt in mind for it, but could end up changing my mind.  We'll see what happens.

I also finished the countdown top.  The numbers were a pattern by Meadow Mist Designs.  I think it might look better with a little more space between the numbers, but it is already pretty long.  So all things considered, I'm pretty happy with it.

More wavy lines

My mother-in-law asked me to quilt this quilt, and semi-quickly.  (At least, semi-quickly for me.)  I had just down the wavy lines on the last quilt and loved them.  So I did them again.  And I still love them.

I did wavy lines on each side of each edge.  The quilt has a slight water/Hawaiian feel to it, so the waves fit really well!

The only problem I had was with the back.  It is a (very cute) plaid, but I didn't stretch it quite correctly on the frame and I think one edge will be a little distorted.  So with this quilt I learned that it's really important to have enough extra to clamp on to, especially it there are straight lines on the back.

Simply Solids block - May

Here is my block for May...

I like it.  I had some trouble with the final seams though...I'm not sure what happened.  I thought everything was lined up and I sewed on the line, and then if I had cut the block on the 1/4" markings it would have been too small.  Luckily I had learned my lesson from last time and didn't trim the outside edges.  Unluckily there was still only place where I was about 1/4" under.  Since it was just a 1/4" and not more I added another little piece.  Maybe I should make sure the leader doesn't just want me to replace the whole piece...I just get so nervous taking apart paper pieced blocks.

This week

There's been lots of stuff going on this week!

I started my Simply Solids block.

I got some T-shirts from a friend and bought some stabilizer.  I've never used stabilizer before.

I finished the top of my fractured quilt.  I love it!  The quilter is "booked" for a while though, so I'm not sure when I'll be finishing it.  Hopefully before too long.  I also have no idea how to quilt it, so I need to see what other people have done.

I was trying to quickly quilt a quilt for my mother-in-law.  I was taking pictures of it and realized that I missed two wavy lines.  I still have plenty of time to finish it, bit it's annoying that it isn't done.

Blogger's Quilt Festival: Baby Quilt

This is the latest baby quilt that I've made.  I've loved the look of random HST quilts.

I love the yellow color, but managed to hold myself bank and only include four yellow triangles.

I quilted it with wavy lines because I needed to finish it quickly because the baby was almost due!  I finished it the day the baby was born but then managed to send it to the wrong address.  Trust me, this is not something that you want to do.  I caught the mistake pretty quickly and the recipients were able to contact the front office, but it still took a few days before the office said they had it and a few more days before it was actually to the baby.  Hooray for honest people!!

At two weeks old, the little girl is 5 1/2 squares long.

I'm adding this quilt to the Blogger's Quilt Festival too.  I really love how it turned out.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Welcome to the Blogger's Quilt Festival!  I would like to share my quilt called Interlocked Hearts.

This quilt was made with my mom in mind.  She died eleven years ago, before I started quilting, but I still wanted to make her a quilt.  So I made this one and donated it to a Hospice fundraiser.  My mom did a lot with Hospice, both working there and then receiving help before she died, and so it seemed fitting.

The white heart represents a loved person (for me, my mom) and the colored hearts are for all the people in their life.

It was quilted with a heart pantograph.  The binding was left over scraps, but I love how it helps to bring out the bright colors!

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!  You may recall that last year I posted about a quilt that my mom had made.  That sparked some discussion in our family as my dad thought she had more than one quilt, but my brother and I could only remember that one.  Some digging was done and one more quilt was found...made by my great grandmother for my mother.


It has a bunch of dresses with hats and umbrellas.

While this isn't something that is really too my taste, I find it really cool that it's been around so long. (Well, not super long.  We estimated the date around 1963ish.)  And it looks as though it was well used...there were some stains and a rip on the back.

If only quilts could talk.
