WIP Wednesday

I'm working on several different things right now, so WIP Wednesday is a bit more interesting now.

I'm unpicking a bunch of pebbles.  I should have realized that the grey would show up too much before quilting them, but didn't even think about it.  I only have one bubble left!

My leader/ender pillow is still coming along.

I've started making a quilt for my son's new bed...it still has a long way to go.  The design is based on a design I saw in QDAD.

And finally, my aunt's quilt is really close to done.  The sections are in 4x8 squares now.

Treasure Map

I finished my son's quilt a few days before he arrived.  (Although as I took the pictures I realized there were some loose threads in the back...so it is only functionally finished.)

It is the Treasure Map from Pixel Play by Emily Cier.  It is supposed to be twin sized, but I shunk everything in half and decided in the beginning it would be ok if it wasn't perfect.  (It also meant that I had many squares with a finished size if 1/2" by 1/2".)

Now, I've had tons of time to stare at the quilt in its finished state, but there are so many issues.  Since the blocks are small lining them up was hard.  The smallness also created a ton of very noticeable wrinkles when quilting,  I ran out of ocean and ordered more, but the dye lot is different...and easily seen in the 3am lighting that I have.  The quilt is not square.  I missed quilting a few small places.

But...it was made with love and has already gotten a lot of use.  I'm happy with how it turned out, overall.

I quilted the water with ocean currents (or swirls) and the land with pebbles.  The outside border has a cross-hatch that pretends to be straight.  I was going to do some cool tree trunks and leaves but with all the wrinkles decided that I shouldn't.

The back is a light blue minky.  It's fun to see the different colored threads on the back.

There are several more quilts that I really like in the book...but it'll probably be a while before I'm ready to do another.

Oops

I'm doing a test block for my son's new quilt.  But...how many different ways can you mess up paper piecing with one seam?

I decided to change the block size anyway, so the fact that the yellow is on upside-down and the space fabric is folded under the seam didn't matter.  At least I managed to get my 1/4" tolerance sewn correctly.

Goals

I've been working away.  It is so wonderfully nice to feel better again, so I've been getting stuff done.  I had a unrealistic goal of not adding to the list this year, but that didn't happen.  However, I've also managed to get a lot done and the list has gotten shorter!  I had 22 items in FebruaryThe list went down to 14 and then up to 16, but that's a lot shorter than it's been in a long time!

1. T-shirt quilt.  I've gotten the middle together and am just working on the borders now.

2. Quilt a doll quilt This shouldn't take much time, I just need to do it sometime.

3. Aunt's throw.   I have them in four patches and just need to continue to sew them together.

4. Baby quilt - urban cabins I was so close to finishing and ran out of blue.  Then I decided it was more of a boy quilt than a girl quilt.  (I had been hoping the navy would act as a neutral but might not be dark enough.)  So I got fabric but now it is just sitting again as there is no person to give it to at this point.

5. Quilt nautical quilt  All ready just needs to be quilted

6. Quilt Christmas quilt  All ready just needs to be quilted. :)

7. Pillow for family room.  I ran out of scraps before it was big enough for the pillow.  So now I either need to make scraps which seems ridiculous or wait until I use the fabrics again or something.  It's been a leader-ender project that I periodically plug away at.

8. make the wall hanging for office.  I won this bundle a (long) while ago but since it's for me it doesn't always get priority.  The purple matches the office perfectly though, so I still want to get it done.

9. Simply solids bee quilt.  I still love this layout and want to get it finished, but since I only sort of have an idea of whom to give it to it has stayed on the back burner.

10. {pretend to} work on scrap quilt.  I actually worked on this a little bit!  It was fairly mindless.  I don't have many red scraps, but they're now all in a roll and I'm working on orange.  The final layout keeps changing, but I figure I'll make something work with whatever I have done.

11. Orphan rocket block  This would probably take less than an hour to finish, but I have no real motivation to work on it.

12. Jeweled floors.  I have some of the fabric for this, but it's been put on the back burner
13. Lost piece (almost whole cloth quilt).  I've thought about this a lot but haven't done anything.
14. Winter quilt.  I have all the fabric and an idea on the layout.
15. Wedding quilt.  I've e-mailed to the bride but haven't heard anything back.
16. Space robot quilt.  My son moved to a twin bed and I realized that he needs a new quilt for it.  I was looking through a fabric catalogue (usually not a dangerous thing) and noticed some robots.  He loves robots and, upon closer look, there were also space ships/planets/stars.  The decor in his room is space and robots, so I purchased the fabric.  I think I have a plan now but need to figure out the details.
(One of the things i love about this hobby is that I can wash the quilts.  So if fabric gets walked on, it really isn't a big deal.)
