Earth Tones: finished

I realized that I needed a semi-quick baby quilt recently.  I know I can always be late with baby quilts, but try to be on time.  For some reason, earth tones kept coming to my mind.  I know they're not all that normal for a baby, but I don't think the baby will really care.  I usually choose colors that I like.  

I found a pattern that looked fun and, bonus, it was super easy.  I saw the quilt first at Quilting By Dawn, although I'm not sure of any further information about the original.  As with most quilts, I figure out sizes and measurements on my own.  I split the colors from the browns.  Based on darkness, I started with the lightest color and darkest brown and alternated color/brown, getting lighter or darker.  I used Kona solids from my stash: Nautical, Sand, Hunter Green, Stone, Teal Blue, Spice, Artichoke, Spice, Waterfall, Eucalyptus, and White.

I did an all-over quilting of seafoam, which is a mix of swirls and pebbles.  It isn't one that I choose very often lately, but it seemed to be perfect for this.

I backed it with a dark green minky and bound it in sateen and it's all set!

Fish Quilt

My mother-in-law made this fish quilt for my new second cousin.

I quilted 'Sea Foam' on it.  The swirls and bubbles seemed to match so well with the fish.

I did not quilt over the fish though, causing them to pop slightly from the background.

Pluses

Plus tornado is finished.  Let's be honest...it was finished a while ago.

The pattern is from here and the coloring is sort of from here.  I did less of a rainbow pattern, and the inside pluses are a different color.  I'm not completely sure why I did that.

It is bright and colorful for the little baby though.  When I stopped over to give it to her parents, they both noticed that there was a music score in the inside pluses.  They both, separately, said, "I wonder if I can tell what the music is."  However, it is well quilted and in small squares, so they were not able to figure it out.

I quilted something different in each color family.  I just did whatever I felt like, using thread that was about the same color as the fabric.  Oranges got a double orange peel and greens got back and forth.

Pinks got a double loop.

Blues have a wood grain.

Yellow has sea foam.

Purple has squares and rectangles.

And last, but not least, the background has pluses.

It was a fun quilt.  It isn't my new favorite, as newly finished quilts often are, but I did enjoy picking out all the different fabrics and different quilting patterns.
