Goals

I've managed to add all sorts of projects since two months ago!!  However, to switch it up, I decided to put them in order of approximate start date as I was curious as to how long things are staying around.  I'm actually pretty proud of myself - there are only two items that have been around for more than a year and a half.

I know these posts might not be the most interesting to read, but I actually refer back to them quite a bit...it helps me keep track of what I'm doing and what I should be doing.

1.  Pluses quilt.  This one has been hiding in the closet for almost three years.  I'm not sure why I stopped; I like the quilt.  I decided it was time to get it on the list.  Currently all the pieces are cut out and rows are being put together.  It looks neat, but I have a feeling it might be a bit difficult to figure out exactly what goes where.  April 2011.

2. Make the wall hanging for office.  I won this bundle a (long) while ago but since it's for me it doesn't always get priority.  The purple matches the office perfectly though, so I still want to get it done. June 2012.
3. Aunt's throw. The top is finished!  Now I just need to quilt it.  April 2013.

4. Orphan rocket block  This would probably take less than an hour to finish, but I have no real motivation to work on it. July 2013.

5. Pillow for family room.  I ran out of scraps before it was big enough for the pillow.  So now I either need to make scraps which seems ridiculous or wait until I use the fabrics again or something.  It's been a leader-ender project that I periodically plug away at.  August 2013.

6. Simply solids bee quilt.  I still love this layout and want to get it finished, but since I only sort of have an idea of whom to give it to it has stayed on the back burner. August 2013.

7. Baby quilt - urban cabins I was so close to finishing and ran out of blue.  Then I decided it was more of a boy quilt than a girl quilt.  (I had been hoping the navy would act as a neutral but might not be dark enough.)  So I got fabric but now it is just sitting again as there is no person to give it to at this point. October 2013.

8. Quilt a doll quilt   Currently on the quilter and about 2/3 of the way finished.  It's been going pretty quickly when I actually quilt.  Nov 2013.

9. Quilt nautical quilt  All ready just needs to be quilted. Nov 2013.

10. Quilt Christmas quilt  All ready just needs to be quilted. :) Nov 2013.

11. scrap quilt. I have the red, orange, and yellow strips done.  Although I don't have a very big yellow strip so I might need to go back to it.  I also have all the green pieces cut out.  January 2014.

12. Space robot quilt.  About a quarter of the blocks are finished.  They're not too bad, but I've been mixing them up with other projects too so I don't get burned out. September 2014.

13. Baby Boy quilt. Just needs to be quilted. Sept 2014

14. QST.  Just need to quilt. Sept 2014

15. Metro Lattice I made one of the blocks to test it out.  It went together very nicely!  (It's on a white background which is hard to see.  I didn't realize that until well after I had taken the picture.) Sept 2014

16. Jeweled floors.  I have some of the fabric for this, but it's been put on the back burner.  Not started.
17. Lost piece (almost whole cloth quilt).  I've thought about this a lot but haven't done anything. Not started
18. Winter quilt.  I have all the fabric and an idea on the layout. Not started
19. Braid in braid The fabric has been ordered, but officially it hasn't started.

T-shirt quilt 2

My friend is about to return overseas, so I wanted to make sure that I got this to her before she left!  It is a sister quilt to her husband's.

The back is grey polka dots on a black background.  I used matching threads in the borders and sashing, and I like how the yellow pebbles stand out so much.

The T-shirts are trying to escape the dresser!  (Otherwise known as me trying to find interesting pictures.)

Here are some of my favorite blocks.  This one I traced around the continents.  I did it to make sure that there was enough quilting for the batting, but it made it pop nicely.

I have this same shirt and it is one of my favorites...so comfortable!

This one is funny because my friend lived in a cottage called DeGraaf for a year or two.

This one shows my continued effort to drape a quilt casually yet artfully.  I won't show you all the outtakes.

And one more showing the back.  You can see the border quilting best here.  (Hmm...if you zoom in on the picture.  I need to do a better job photographing quilting.)  Figure eights in the green border, back and forths in the blue border, and double straight lines in the yellow.  For the green and blue borders I used a tip from Amy's Free Motion Quilting Adventures and used a plastic grid and pounce pad to put a grid in the quilt.  This helped me keep everything a bit more evenly lined up while not taking up too much extra time.

edit: I realized I forgot to give some credit for the design (again!).  The original was seen here.

WIP Wednesday

I worked on several things these past two weeks to keep life a bit more interesting...

1) Space robots: I'm about a quarter of the way done making the blocks.  They aren't that bad to make, just a little monotonous.

2) I finished the T-shirt quilt...my first finish in what feels like a long time.  But it really hasn't been that long.  The official post will be showing up soon.

3) I enjoyed looking at the orange scrap strip so much that I continued to work on the yellow scraps.

4) I have two more seams to finish in my Aunt's quilt and then the top will be finished.  (I'd like to make some of the quilting really stand out.  Any recommendations for a metallic or shiny thread?)

5) And I put the doll quilt on the quilter.  It doesn't seem like it will take very much time to finish.  There are hearts in the unicorn blocks and a stipple in the nine patches.

Holes

So remember that gift certificate that was burning a hole in my pocket?  I used some of it yesterday.

I'm adding some fabric that I already have for this selection:

I'm finally making a rainbow(ish) quilt.  I'm still not sold on the dark blues...I had originally been thinking something more teal, but didn't see anything that I loved.

As I was telling my husband about my day I mentioned that I had bought some fabric.  Then I said I also had quilts I wanted to sew burning holes in my pockets...there are so many fun ideas to create!  He said that maybe I should sew my pockets shut...and we laughed.  It's true, but probably won't happen.  :D

Braid in braid

I've always thought that a braid in a braid could be a fun quilt.  Through QDAD, I finally experimented on it.  I'm still learning EQ7 so the smaller braids aren't very well done, but you can still get the idea.

Day 1: Half braid in braid.  I really just got tired of trying to get the small braids in and stopped halfway.  It's still neat though.  (Palette)

Day 2: Braid in braid, three colors.  I really like this one.  (Palette)

Day 3: Braid in Braid, four colors.  I don't like this one as much.  With an even number of colors the overall picture doesn't look as random. (Palette)

Day 4: Braid in braid in braid, three colors.  I don't like this one either.  You can only see the small braids.  If the bigger braids get lost, what's the point of doing all that work? (Palette)

So the result of all of this is that I really want to do a three color braid in braid.  I've figured out a place to put it, so now I just need to choose colors...and actually do it.  It got added to the goals list, so it'll probably happen sometime.

Orange scraps

The color at SoScrappy this month is orange.  I had been working on my orange scraps when I last put them away and so this tempted me to bring them out again.

The "problem" is that I still don't know what I'm going to do with them once I have all the color strips together.  I keep changing my mind.  But I figure that at least I'm getting started!

Then, since I was done with orange I started yellow.  I might change colors again next month to go with the color of the month, but decided that I wasn't ready for two scrap projects at this point.

New project

I received a gift certificate to the local quilt store and it's burning a hole in my pocket.  But first I need to get the solids to go with it.

I love the pink on this fabric (Flights of Fancy by Paula Prass.  Image from her Etsy shop).  It's bright but not overwhelmingly so.

I'm not actually using the print in the new quilt, but wanted to match the color as closely as possible.  Out came the color card.  So over the course of a day I matched it...to all four pinks.  But in the end, I think I'm going to go with Camellia.  I think.

WIP Wednesday

I'm still working on the same things as two weeks ago.  Progress is slow, but there is progress at least.

1. Space robots - I have several blocks finished, but a lot more to do.  (The blue one in the upper left is rotated incorrectly.  I'll have to be very careful with that when actually putting it together.  Unless I end up rotating many of them.)

2. T-shirt quilt - I finished unpicking the pebbles, something I hope to never do again.  The T-shirt panels have all been stippled and I'm pebbling the sashing, this time in a matching color.
