T-shirt quilt

Hooray!  Another finish!  They seem to come in clumps.

The T-shirt quilt is finished.

I put a very simple Irish Chain on the back.  I had been expecting to do something very simple, like stripes, but this looked like fun.  There's also a hint of orange around three of the sides.  I didn't have quite enough grey fabric and then didn't center it absolutely perfectly, hence orange on only three sides.  But the orange isn't on the top, so it doesn't feel off-kilter to me.

I'm going to admit; T-shirt quilts aren't my favorite.  I had fun with the borders and the back, but the T-shirts don't hold any memories for me.  I listened to the recipient recall fond memories when I gave the quilt to him though, and it was nice to hear how much it was (and will be) loved.

This ended up being my favorite block after an "oh no!  What have I done?" moment.  I cut the panel way too small.  After weighing my options, I decided to cut another strip from the shirt and put it on.  Well, on the bottom of the shirt was another little graphic.  So I added it and now it looks like it was supposed to be there!

I stippled the T-shirt panels, but didn't quilt over the screen printing.  I put pebbles in the sashing, figure eights in the blue border, back and forths in the orange border, and double lines in the outer green border.  The green and blue borders contained patterns that I hadn't done before and I think they turned out pretty well on the whole.

I did the border quilting in different colors...I thought it would look cool on the back.

My son took a liking to this quilt.  He semi-escaped onto the deck while I was taking pictures and made a beeline to it.  He then made my husband and I lay on it with him.  So we had some fun family time.

I finally packaged it all up (using a folding tutorial from here).   Everytime I made a fold my son put more balls on the quilt.  I think he was trying to say that if his toy balls were on the quilt then it was his.

edit: I realized I forgot to give some credit for the design.  The original was seen here.

This is my finish for a lovely year of finishes! Also linking up with Fabric Tuesday and Linky Tuesday.

Progress

Here's some of my progress from the last two weeks.

All the T-shirts have fusible webbing on them.  I was a little disappointed in the interfacing...it took forever to fuse.  It's the first time I've used interfacing, so it could be normal, but I was hoping it would go faster.  But, they're all ready and I have sashing fabric, so I'm moving forward.

The orange baby blanket that I'm trying to finish by the end of the month is about halfway quilted.    I'm using my ruler base to make several straight lines.

I started cutting squares for the 1-up quilt.  I'm trying to be extra careful with these fabrics and not let the cat sit on them...it could be harder than it sounds.

May accomplishments, June goals

1.  Finish HST quilt, ideally before the baby arrives.  I finished it as the baby was arriving, but due to a mail error it took an extra week to actually arrive at its final destination.

2.  Finish countdown and rocket.  I finished piecing it.  I still need to quilt it, but the quilting queue got a little long.
3.  Piece the individual squares for the fractured quilt.  Done!  I even got them all together and I love it.

8. Pillow for family room.  Since I had a ton of scraps from Fractured, I started piecing them together.

12. Baby boy quilt from jelly roll.   The cat would not get out of the picture.  I was lucky to get her on the side and not smack in the middle.
13. May Simply Solids block.
16. T-shirt quilt (September).  This is my first time using interfacing.  I got it on three shirts before needing to change to something else.

17. Quilt castle quilt.  So far I'm putting Lollipop Flowers (Leah Day) in the nine-patch blocks.

For June, my number one goal is (for the Lovely Year of Finishes):
  ”My
1. Finish baby quilt from jelly roll.  I need to fix the 2nd and 5th rows so they are offset, put everything together (with sashing), quilt and bind.  The baby is due July 7, so maybe I can even get it out before the baby comes for once.

I'd also like to try really hard to:
2. Piece the T-shirt quilt
3. June Simply Solids block.

And the other things that are still on the list, hanging out:
4.  Finish countdown and rocket
5.  Quilt the fractured quilt.
6. make the wall hanging for office.
7. pretend to work on scrap quilt.
8. finish green coasters.
9. Aunt's throw.
10. Pillow for family room.
11. Jeweled floors.
12. Picture quilt (finish by Christmas).
13. Quilt castle quilt
14. Think about another baby quilt (October)
15. One-up mushroom (October)

I'm also linking up with Fresh Sewing Day.

This week

There's been lots of stuff going on this week!

I started my Simply Solids block.

I got some T-shirts from a friend and bought some stabilizer.  I've never used stabilizer before.

I finished the top of my fractured quilt.  I love it!  The quilter is "booked" for a while though, so I'm not sure when I'll be finishing it.  Hopefully before too long.  I also have no idea how to quilt it, so I need to see what other people have done.

I was trying to quickly quilt a quilt for my mother-in-law.  I was taking pictures of it and realized that I missed two wavy lines.  I still have plenty of time to finish it, bit it's annoying that it isn't done.
