Matching Pillow

It's been on my list for quite a while, but I finally finished up a pillow from my Fractured wall hanging scraps.  (ok...I ran out of the scraps and had to make some scraps and wait for the cedar chest cover to finish up too for more scraps.)

I just took pieces and put them together, and them kept doing that until I got a rectangular(ish) piece.  Then I put the rectangles together.  I didn't read anything about improve piecing ahead of time...it might have been a good idea, but it ended up turning out fine.  I did have to make an extra cut because I looked at the first final product and there was a row of really large pieces that stood out.  But by that time I had kind of learned...if you don't like it, cut it up and try again.

I backed it with some minky.  My son hasn't discovered this yet and has just left the pillow alone.

And here it is in its home, near Fractured.

Tulip Time quilt show

It's tulip time again here in Holland.  That means it's time for a quilt show!

We tried to go in the morning, but I instead ended up with a nasty smelling car as my oldest was sick.  We tried again in the afternoon with much more success.

Kaleidoscope by Arla Beukema, from Stack & Whack Book.  (I really like the idea of stack and whacks and would like to make one sometime.  I really like this setting as it gives the eye a place to rest.)

Deloa's Delight, quilted by Deloa Jones.  My oldest said he had a pretty quilt to show me and brought me over to this one.  I liked it too.  Our tastes seemed to match pretty well.

Dusk (top) and Dawn (bottom): Made by Kristen Kennedy, Quilted by Darla Parks, designed by Christina Lane.  These two drew me from the beginning.  I ended up choosing Dawn as one of my favorites because I liked the quilting a bit better, but it was a hard decision.

Oh look!  It's mine!  Top made by and quilted by Amanda Hilldore, design by Charlotte Newland.  My son found it right away, before I even spotted it. :)  It's fun to have it in a show, but my wall at home is looking rather bare.

Ocean Blue, made by Ella Porretta, quilted by Ella Porretta and Donna Cooper, designed by Karen Eckmeier.  I'm always drawn to these Ocean/Lakes quilts.  I think I should add it to my bucket list.  Oh, I just read the rest of the sign.  It was made by an eight year old.

Fractured

Fractured is finished and hung!  We have a green wall, and I wanted something that matched.  The black also matches the couch and TV.

The pattern is from Displacement Activity.  I used the following Kona solids - (starting the in center) black, dark grey, steel, medium grey, ash, egg shell, honeydew, tarragon, peridot, palm.

I did a radiating flame from the center with several different colors of thread.  A dark grey, light grey, and a few shades of green.  I had been thinking that something like this would be nice, but I when I saw it on Quilt Matters it solidified my decision.

The back is some fabric that I won from a giveaway.  It matched very well.

Flames

I finished quilting my Fractured quilt.  I wasn't really planning on quilting it this month, but the quilt I was hoping to have ready was still a long ways off.  I love it!!!

I was thinking something like this would be nice, and then I saw Michèle-Renée's.  She was nice enough to send me a close-up photo of hers I think mine ended up similar.

This week

There's been lots of stuff going on this week!

I started my Simply Solids block.

I got some T-shirts from a friend and bought some stabilizer.  I've never used stabilizer before.

I finished the top of my fractured quilt.  I love it!  The quilter is "booked" for a while though, so I'm not sure when I'll be finishing it.  Hopefully before too long.  I also have no idea how to quilt it, so I need to see what other people have done.

I was trying to quickly quilt a quilt for my mother-in-law.  I was taking pictures of it and realized that I missed two wavy lines.  I still have plenty of time to finish it, bit it's annoying that it isn't done.

WIP Wednesday

Good morning!  It's a beautiful day over here.

And I've made some progress this week!

I finished my random HST quilt.  It's currently in the wash and then it will get an official final post.  And none too soon!  I heard the baby was on the way (and might be here by now...I'm not the first to find out.)

I also finished my rocket for the countdown.  It didn't go together perfectly, but close enough for me.

And I started the Fractured Quilt...I'm loving it.

I also got two more quilts in the queue this week...I'm excited about both!  One of them is a T-shirt quilt so I'm waiting on the T-shirts and one is a pixelated 1-up mushroom.  I have ordered the fabric for that. :)

April accomplishments, May goals

I finished my top three goals for April, and I did it in time.  Hurray!
1. Bind Sarah's quilt.  (This shouldn't take long.)  Done - and it didn't take long. :)

2. Bind I-spy and bury threads.  (There are a lot of threads to bury, but it still shouldn't be too bad.)  Done!  The new owners seem to love it.

3. Finish Interlocking hearts.  (If all goes to plan, I'll have a few extra days before this is due.  Hopefully.) Done!  I did finish this a few days before it was due, but due to tons of rain it was still hard to get some good pictures.  I dropped it off at Hospice as a donation for their fundraising auction.

Since those things were finished in the first part of the month, I also worked on a few other things.
9. Pattern testing of some numbers.  Here are some of the numbers.  I'm working on making a rocket to go with them.

10. Quilt red quilt for mother-in-law. Done!

11. Random triangles. Half way through quilting.  I really like how it's turning out. And the quilting is going really quickly.

12. Fractured quilt.  I have the templates drawn.  I know - it's an exciting picture.

17. April Simply Solids block.  Done!

So here are my goals for May:
1.  Finish HST quilt, ideally before the baby arrives.
2.  Finish countdown and rocket
3.  Piece the individual squares for the fractured quilt.
And the other things that are still hanging around:
4. make the wall hanging for office.
5. pretend to work on scrap quilt.
6. finish green coasters.
7. Aunt's throw.
8. Pillow for family room.
9. Jeweled floors.
10. Picture quilt (finish by Christmas).
11. Write a pattern for interlocking hearts.
12. Baby boy quilt from jelly roll. (July)
13. May Simply Solids block.
14. Think about another baby quilt (October)
15. One-up mushroom (October)
(late addition)16. T-shirt quilt (September)
Hey, the count went down again!  I'm always happy to see that, but at the same time I'd be sad if there was nothing to work on.
I'll be joining up with Fresh Sewing Day and Just Three as the links become available.
