Baby scrap quilt

I finished this quilt before the end of January, as was my goal, and before the baby came.  In fact, it was finished about two weeks prior to both!

It is made with scraps of the spinwheel quilt.  There are four color categories: yellow, grey, dark purple, and light purple.  It is obvious that the yellow was going to stand out the most, so I planned the placement of those triangles.  I also planned the light and dark triangles around the diamond in the lower left corner.  It is a rather more subtle, but it's still there.

I backed it with minky, because that's my favorite.  For most of the quilting I did loops.  I was looking for a motif that would be done rather quickly and it matched that of the original quilt.  (Although I highly doubt the two quilts will ever meet.)

To make the quilting a bit more interesting I did a 8-pointed flower in the yellow diamonds with yellow thread.  (I've been seeing this flower all over.  It might have originally come from Angela Walters, if I recall correctly.)  I also did some back and forths in purple thread in the light purple squares that surround every diamond.

I tried having my five year old be a quilt holder.  It was a little bit too big and too heavy for him, but he's almost there.

December recap

1.  bee hive scrap something - baby girl quilt.  This is January's goal.  It seems like a pretty easy goal to finish it, but if I don't make it the goal I will work on something else and not finish it.  The baby for whom it is intended should arrive this month, so I'm hoping to finish it before I see her.

2. Aunt's quilt. I finished piecing it.  I need to get some backing still, and figure out how I want to quilt it.  I think this one will be quilted next.

3. Sunset wall hanging.  I just have the half the binding left to do. It's getting finished, still slowly but steadily.  I also have to bury some threads in the back.

Other items still waiting around.
4. scrap quilt #2.
needs a little more quilting, then blocking.  I'm a bit afraid of blocking, although I saw a tutorial by QuiltingJetgirl recently that made it look only a little scary.
5. Scrap quilt.
needs a lot more quilting.
6. Rainbow log cabin.
finish piecing - close
7. Orphan rocket block.
Just make into a zip little bag.  I may need to make a second one for a sibling.
8. Jeweled floors.
Still in early design stage; I didn't do much with it this year.
9. Lost piece (almost whole cloth quilt).
Still in design stage...I have so many other quilting things going on that this will probably hang out for a while.  But it's small, so it might be good to sew up so I could work on it easily...
10. Winter quilt.
Design completed.
11. fabric from Christmas.
Purpose figured out...a napping quilt for me.  For me!  Now to figure out the perfect design.
12. A pillow with green/purple fabric.
I haven't done anything with this, but it should be easy.
13. Simply solids bee quilt.
piecing needs to be finished - it's close, but there are some weird angles so it might also be rather challenging.
14. Quilt nautical quilt.
Half way done.

Since it's January and I hit my goal of getting down to 15 WIPS, I gave myself permission to add several items.  I have to whole year to get the list shortened again!
15. Meshing solid HSTs.
I started cutting, but no solid design plan yet.
16. green/white hourglass quilt.
I have a design figured out
17. baby quilt - possibly pair with another quilt on the list.
TBD
18. woodlands quilt.
TBD
19. Trying to fit in - left over triangle quilt.
I have an idea.
20. Temperature quilt.
My sister-in-law is crocheting a temperature blanket too.  It'll be fun to see how they look different (or the same) at the end.  The squares will be 2.5" finished, and each month will get two rows of 15 squares.  Some days might just have to share a square or will get two squares.

November accomplishments

1. A few simple pillows to go with the wedding quilt.  I'd like to make a few covers for throw pillows and two normal pillow cases.  It just seems needed to tie really complete the gift.  This is my December goal.

2. bee hive scrap something - baby girl quilt.  I finished the top.    I like how I was able to include elements of randomness and order in it.

3. Aunt's quilt. The strips are almost all sewn together; I just have two rows left!  I'm not expecting this to be a Christmas present, but we'll have to see how timing goes.

4. Quilt HI quilt.  I just need to take some good pictures of it.  I missed my chance in the snow this past weekend, but hopefully more snow is coming soon.

Other items still waiting around.
5. scrap quilt #2.
6. Scrap quilt.
7. Simply solids bee quilt.
8. Rainbow log cabin.
9. Orphan rocket block.
10. Jeweled floors.
11. New purse
12. Lost piece (almost whole cloth quilt).
13. Winter quilt.
14. fabric from Christmas.
15. A pillow with green/purple fabric.
16. Sunset wall hanging.
17. Quilt nautical quilt.

My goal was to get down to 15 items by January.  If I can finish the pillows and take pictures of the HI quilt and not add anything new, I'll just barely make it!

November goal

I just realized it was the last day of the month and that I hadn't shown my completed November goal!  I finished the top a few days ago.

I used the scraps from this quilt.  I had to add some squares and ended up cutting out way too many...so now I still have scraps from this color way.  I might just throw them back in their respective color bins since they're squares and easier to use later.

It turned out about as I expected.  In the original concept you could see the light purple squares around the yellow diamonds better, but the dark purple triangle in the bottom left was on purpose and came out well.

October recap

1. bee hive scrap something - baby girl quilt. My goal for November is to figure out a design and sew the top together.  I previously thought I had about 540 HSTs, but I really have about 280.  I'm not sure where my math went wrong. :p  Anyway, that's not quite big enough for a baby quilt, so I'll add in some plain squares too.

2. Baby quilt (boy). This is almost done; I need to put on the binding and bury a few threads.  Hurray!

3. Aunt's quilt. I've put a few rows together.  Nothing exciting but it is at that stage where it will suddenly become a top before expected.

Other items still waiting around...or newly added.

Recap of June

1.  Pluses quilt for Baby boy.  Finishing this up is my July goal.  I need to bury some thread ends and bind.  The baby is due late July, so hopefully it'll be all ready by the time he arrives.  (This is my oldest work in progress - started over four years ago.)

2. Wedding quilt.  The middle blocks are almost done, along with some of the outside blocks.  This is my main piecing project at the moment, but once the blocks are done I'm going to move to something else for a bit.

3. bee hive scrap something. Everything is all trimmed up!  I know that my layout needs to be 20x27ish...next step is to figure out a layout.

4. Baby quilt (boy).  I'm going to use the Stash Bee blocks I get from this month to make this.  The baby was just born, but hopefully I can get this out quickly once the blocks are in.

5. QDAD challenge piece.  I have a layout and the fabric.  This is the next main piecing project.

6. The bee hive quilt. I just put this on the quilter.  I am putting loops on it...a nice fast motif, and the loops remind me of wind.  It's appropriate since the block is called spin wheel.

Other items still waiting around.

Scraps

541.

I finished trimming all the extra HSTs from the bee hive quilt.  Now to figure out what to do with them...

edit: I think I want to do a layout of 20x27.  I was trying to remember my elementary math to put the right search term into Google.  Turns out "Factors of 540" is what I needed, but it took a conversation with my husband to get the right term.

progress during May

1. Baby quilt (girl).  I just finished the quilting on this one.  I decided to go with a pantograph for quilting since its been a while since I've done one.  The baby was just born, so I'd like to get this finished!  It's my June goal - I finally choose a reasonable one.

2. scrap quilt #2. This was my May goal.  But then I decided I wanted more quilting in the colored areas and to block it.  Blocking intimidates me so I stopped working on it.  I'm slowly working on burying threads, so there's still progress...but it isn't finished as hoped.

3.  Pluses quilt for Baby boy.  All pieced!  This is my oldest incomplete project.  And all the back and front threads have been tidied up.  I'm not sure why if there were so many thread ends on it because I didn't cut it well four years ago or if it's been moved so much that they frayed.

4. Wedding quilt.  Two, almost three blocks are done!

5. bee hive scrap something. I trimmed up about 20 more HSTs.  That counts as progress, right?  The ones in the upper right are the ones that still need trimming.

6. Aunt's quilt.  No actual progress, but I think I understand what she's looking for and I'm mulling all sorts of ideas in my head.

Other items still waiting around.

March rollover

I decided that I don't want to have a goal this month.  I'm not really sure why, but nothing is "due" too soon so I'm just going to work on anything.  The only plan is to switch out the scrap quilt from the frame and put the triangle baby quilt on...about mid-month.

Here's the progress from last month:
1. A triangle baby quilt.  Top done, ready for quilting.

2. Scrap quilt. Started quilting.  There's no rush on this one, so I'm just going to work on it when I can.

3. bee hive scrap something.  I have a ton of scraps from the bee hive quilt.  I've made them into HSTs and am ironing and trimming them.  Then I'll have to figure out a layout.

4. scrap quilt #2. Done!  It's ready for quilting.  It's larger than I thought it would be, but oh well.

5. Space robot pillow.   The outside is made and I'm cutting up extra batting for stuffing.

Other items still waiting around.  I increased from last month again. :)

6. The bee hive quilt.
7. Sunset wall hanging.
8. Simply solids bee quilt.
